Lueders Limestone

Founded in 1999, Continental Quarries was established to supply Lueders Limestone for the Continental Cut Stone Fabrication Mill. As production quickly ramped up, the company expanded its operations to serve projects beyond internal needs. Today, Continental Quarries operates two quarries in Lueders, Texas.

Why Lueders Limestone

Durability

Lueders limestone is a highly durable stone that can withstand harsh weather conditions, making it ideal for both interior and exterior applications. Its toughness ensures that it holds up well over time, resisting wear and weathering.

 

Aesthetic Appeal

The stone has a natural, attractive appearance with a range of colors, from light tans to golden hues, that can enhance the visual appeal of a building. It also has a smooth texture, which makes it easy to carve or shape for decorative purposes.

Sustainability

Like many natural stones, Lueders limestone is a sustainable material. It’s quarried with minimal impact on the environment, and its long lifespan makes it a sustainable option for long-term construction with minimal maintenance.

Lueders limestone has been used historically in many significant buildings, especially in the southwestern United States, lending it a timeless, classical aesthetic. Its history of use adds a sense of tradition and permanence to any structure built with it

Lueders Limestone Color

Understand the color range – Roughback is the outer portion of the raw block. (Similar to the bark of a tree) It is sliced away from the core of the stone. There can be a wide range of light tans, rust, browns, etc. 1 control sample is not ample when serving up natural stone in your design.

 

Understand the color range of Lueders Limestone –The core of Lueders limestone—once the roughback is removed—typically ranges from light gray to buff gray. It makes for an excellent choice for exterior and interior applications in both vertical and horizontal uses. Lueders has the highest PSI of Texas limestones coming in around 6,000-7,000 PSI in compressive strength with low absorption.  It is a medium density natural stone.

A special note about Charcoal (dark gray) This distinctive tone comes from select layers deep within the quarry, where the stone has absorbed natural hydrocarbons over time. These “oil-soaked” layers give the stone its dark appearance.

The Charcoal, not to be confused with Lueder Buff gray and gray Lueders, will lose the dark color gray.  Based on past performance, we do not recommend Charcoal Lueders for exterior applications. The charcoal coloration is not colorfast — exposure to elements like sun and rain, can cause the color to lighten and the material to degrade over time.

Lueders Bench Block

Bench Blocks – This product can be produced with drilled and split ends or sawn ends. It can also be produced as a Sawn 5-side product – which means the back face will be sawn as well. The product will have a natural Roughback face.

Slabs.
Typical thickness is either 1 ¼ ”, 1 ½”, 2:, or
2 ¼”
The slabs are raw-edged, not cut to size.
